Barcelona is a hotel opened in 2012 in San Juan de los Remedios, the eighth village recognized as Cuba's oldest, founded in 1578 and known as the birthplace of Parrandas, possibly the largest and oldest traditional Cuban feast. Its long history is particularly evident in the city center (declared a National Historic Landmark in 1980), where the seventeenth-century Spanish architecture can still be found almost intact.
Hotel Barcelona, which is only a block away from Hotel E Mascotte, shares its location opposite the Plaza Mayor, which is the only one in Cuba with two churches, one of them being the main attraction of the city, the Parish of San Juan Bautista, which contains 13 beautifully decorated gold altars, and other church known as "Our Lady of Good Voyage".
