Tour day #2 photo
Day: 1 Arrival in Dusseldorf
Arrival in Düsseldorf, private transfer to your hotel.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Pay a visit to the traditional beer halls in the Altstadt (Old Town) and sample the local version of the highly celebrated Altbier.

Unlike most German beers, this brown ale is served in short 6oz glasses. Fear not, though – the second you finish one, you’ll automatically be served another by the attentive Köbes (waiters). It’s a smooth, malty brew that you’ll find surprisingly easy to drink a few of in no time.

Of the many beer halls located in the Old Town, Zum Uerige is a favourite for many and has been brewing its Altbier in situ since the 1860s. If you’re looking for something a little stronger, look for the word Sticke, which means ‘secret’. This maltier version of traditional Altbier is available seasonally (autumn and around Lent) and usually isn’t listed on the standard menu.

Day: 5 Train journey Düsseldorf - Frankfurt
After breakfast make your way to the train station and board the train to Frankfurt.

Afternoon at leisure.

One of the last remaining vestiges of Germany’s vast Imperial Forest, Frankfurt City Forest (Stadtwald) spreads out over more than 5,000 hectares – making the city one of Germany’s most wooded urban areas.

Just 15 minutes outside the centre, it draws Frankfurters with its 450-kilometre network of hiking, running and cycling trails.

Within the city, you’ll also find the sprawling Günthersburgpark and Grüneburgpark: the former adjacent to the Botanical Garden (Palmengarten), the latter in the Nordend district. Head to Grüneburgpark in summer for a rich programme of theatre and live music.

Day: 6 Frankfurt city tour
Today you discover the city with the Hop On Hop Off bus.

This tour includes Frankfurt’s highlights and stops among others at Roemer square, the Main tower and the financial center. Feel free to disembark at different stops to explore the sites.

Many European cities have spent decades carefully reconstructing historic buildings destroyed during the First and Second World Wars, but only Frankfurt has bothered to recreate an entire district as it was at the turn of the last century.

The DomRömer Quarter is Frankfurt's ‘new’ old town, spread across 7,000 square metres between Cathedral Square and the medieval Römer building that was more than 90 percent destroyed during the wars.

The development opened in May 2018 and includes 20 new buildings and 15 replicas, including the Stadthaus community and conference centre. Expect to find thriving cafés, shops and a handful of decent museums.

Tour day #8 photo
Day: 7 Half Day tour to Heidelberg
Look forward to a half-day journey to the historic city of Heidelberg, renowned for its romantic charm and rich cultural heritage. Heidelberg Castle is towering above the city, where you’ll explore the picturesque courtyard and marvel at one of the largest wine barrels in the world.

Enjoy a wonderful view over the city and the Neckar River before heading downhill to explore Heidelberg’s old town with its cobblestone streets and winding alleys, its beautifully preserved architecture and lively squares.

Tour day #9 photo
Day: 8 Day at leisure in Frankfurt
Enjoy a day at leisure to explore the city on your own.

Every other Saturday, Flohmarkt Schaumainkai – considered by many to be Frankfurt’s best flea market – opens on the tree-lined southern bank of the Main River.

Grab a coffee or piping hot apple wine and wander down the river through the bustling stalls, where you’ll find an eclectic assortment of wares ranging from second-hand toys to locally made clothing, used bikes, crafts, antique furniture and art, with the Frankfurt skyline serving as a distinguished backdrop.
