This 15-day self-drive tour through England and Scotland offers travelers the freedom to explore at their own pace while driving through some of the UK’s most iconic locations. Beginning in Liverpool, visitors can discover landmarks such as the Royal Albert Dock, Royal Liver Building, and the famous Cavern Club, known for its ties to The Beatles. Each day provides suggested must-see attractions, like The Beatles Story Museum and Liverpool Cathedral, allowing for flexibility based on personal interests. As you drive towards the scenic Lake District, you’ll pass through charming coastal towns like Southport and enjoy natural beauty at Formby Beach.

The adventure continues to Glasgow and the breathtaking Glencoe Valley, where you’ll drive through stunning landscapes of steep mountains and lochs. Suggested stops include Loch Lomond and Fort William, a hub for outdoor activities. The journey then takes you to Loch Ness, where a cruise is recommended for a chance to spot the legendary Nessie. From there, explore whisky distilleries in the Speyside region before heading to Edinburgh, with suggested visits to Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, and Carlton Hill.

Throughout the trip, you’ll have the freedom to take detours, like visiting Alnwick Castle or exploring York’s historic streets. With flexible suggestions, such as a cruise with fish and chips in York or visiting Leeds and Manchester on the return drive, this itinerary allows you to tailor the experience to your preferences while driving through some of the most scenic and historic parts of the UK.

Day 1 Welcome to Liverpool
Arrival at Airport Liverpool. 

Time to pick up your rental car and drive to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, we recommend visiting landmarks such as the Royal Albert Dock and the Royal Liver Building, the second tallest building in the city after the observation tower known as St. John's Beacon.

Liverpool is a vibrant city is considered by the UNESCO the city of music and knows for his rich cultural heritage. After, check in at you accommodation we would advise visiting The Royal Abert Dock Liverpool. In the evening, for music fans and those who want to experience a piece of Liverpool's legendary music scene, a visit to the famous The Cavern Club, known to be the place where the Beatles began their career.

Day 2 Beatles Museum story - Baltic Market- Liverpool Cathedral
Today, after you lovely breakfast continue to explore the city of the Beatles. 

You cannot miss the 2 hours tour at The Beatles story Museum (included in your package). The museum starts with the early life of the Beatles in Liverpool, including their humble beginnings in the local music scene. IT is the ultimate museum dedicated to The Beatles, located in Liverpool’s iconic 

Albert Dock. It’s a must-visit for any fan of the Fab Four, offering an immersive journey through the lives, music, and legacy of the band.

For lunch ideas, visit Bold Street or Baltic Market. Bold Street is considered a trendy street known for its great food options, independent shops, and cool vibe, as well as a café known for its teas and healthy, tasty dishes. Alternatively, you can head to the Baltic Market in the Baltic Triangle for a variety of street food vendors.

After a lovely lunch, we would recommend spending an hour at the Liverpool Cathedral. The monument is the largest cathedral in the UK and a stunning example of Gothic Revival architecture. Explore the magnificent interiors or climb the tower for panoramic views of the city. It has the world’s highest Gothic arches and one of the largest organs in the world.

Day 3 Lake District Park
Onwards journey to the area of Lake District/ Penrith/ Kendal.

There are some incredible stops along the way to Lake District. It’s a good mix of coastal beauty, history, and nature, making your journey from Liverpool to the Lake District both scenic and enjoyable.

You cannot miss Southport, a classic seaside town known for its long sandy beach, the iconic Southport Pier, and beautiful Victorian architecture along Lord Street.

Also, stop at the Formby Beach and Pinewoods. This is a National Trust site which offers a combination of beautiful beaches, sand dunes, and pine forests. It’s also home to a population of rare red squirrels and prehistoric footprints on the beach.

Continue to drive toward Kendal. Considered a charming market town known for its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and famous Kendal Mint Cake. It's a great spot for a quick stop to explore the town and grab a bite.

Finally, arriving at Windermere. Sen as the largest lake in England, Windermere is a popular destination in the Lake District. You can explore the town of Bowness-on-Windermere, take a boat trip on the lake, or start your exploration of the National Park from here.

Day 4 - 5 Welcome to Glasgow
Onwards journey to the area of Glasgow, ca. 200km

We recommend a short break in Gretna Green, one of Scotland’s earliest visitor centres and famous for its Blacksmith shop and marriages. Alternatively, we recommend visiting the city Glasgow which offers culture and art.

Day 6 Loch Lomond- Glencoe Valley
Onward journey to the area of Fort William/ Oban, ca. 175km

You will head north towards Fort William and drive past the largest Loch of Scotland- Loch Lomond. Once you leave Loch Lomond behind you, you will notice a change in the landscape. Brace yourself for windy roads and steep mountains. 

Once, you are hit by the full force of the breath-taking and beautiful scenery that is in front of you, you will know that you have reached the Glencoe Valley. Take advantage of the different parking facilities along the road.

Day 7 Fort William - Glenfinnan
Fort William is a hub for adventurers and hikers. Today you can either explore the area and go for a hike or venture west towards Mallaig. You will almost drive parallel to the Jacobite Steam Train.

Stop at Glenfinnan where you will find an interesting visitor centre, the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the Glenfinnan Monument. We recommend scheduling your visit according to the times when the Jacobite Steam Train is crossing the viaduct. 

Continue to Mallaig. It’s not a big village but is surrounded by lovely white sandy beaches. Return to Fort William.

Day 8 Fort Augustus - Loch Ness Cruise – Cream Tea - Inverness/Aviemore
Today you will go for a hunt for the mystical monster of Loch Ness – Nessie. 

You will pass the quaint town of Fort Augustus and continue towards Inverness. Stop at the Clansman Hotel and enjoy a traditional Cream Tea (included) with a unique view over Loch Ness followed by a relaxing cruise(included). 

You will have the chance to experience the Loch Ness from a different angle and even see the famous Urquhart Castle. If you are lucky enough, Nessie might even make an appearance. You should include a quick visit of the capital of the Highlands – Inverness. We recommend a relaxing walk along the river Ness.

Day 9 Whisky Distillery Tour & Tasting
You should explore the Speyside today. It is home to well over 60 distilleries at present. You will also have the chance to attend a distillery tour including tasting either on the Speyside or around inverness/area (included in your package). We also suggest visiting the Speyside Cooperage. 

The only working cooperage in the UK where you can experience the ancient art of coopering (closed Saturday & Sunday).

Day 10 Welcome to Edinburgh
Today, it's time to travel toward Ediburgh- 317 km. 

We recommend taking the road through the Cairngorm National Park. A visit to Blair Atholl distillery is recommended (optional). Alternatively, the famous town of St Andrews is worth a stop.

Day 11 Edinburgh Castle – Royal Mile – Carlton Hill
Today you have the chance to visit Edinburgh. 

Take a stroll along the Royal Mile and visit the Edinburg Castle(included). Proudly sitting on top of Castle Rock. Listen to one of the many pipers in Old Town, enjoy the scenic view from Carlton Hill and visit one of many boutiques on George Street

Day 12 Alnwick Castle - York
Today after your breakfast, make your way to York. We would advise first stopping at the Alnwick Castle(optional). Known for its Harry Potter filming connections, Alnwick Castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in England. 

The surrounding Alnwick Gardens are also well worth exploring, especially the Poison Garden and the beautiful treehouse restaurant.

If you enjoy natural beauty, take a slight detour and drive through the North York Moors, a breathtaking landscape of rolling hills, heather-clad moors, and quaint villages like Helmsley and Goathland (famous for its role as Hogsmeade station in the Harry Potter films).

In York, don’t miss the magnificent York Minster, the medieval streets of The Shambles, and the York Castle Museum. Walk along the ancient city walls and explore the Jorvik Viking Centre for a look at the city's Viking past.

Day 13 Boat Cruise in York including Fish & Chips lunch
Today your will explore some of the beautiful attraction of York.

Visit Shambles which is one of York's most famous landmarks and one of the best-preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe. With its cobbled streets and overhanging buildings, it is believed to have been the inspiration behind Diagon Alley from the movie adaptation of the most famous magician well known on the series.

After, have a wonderful experience on a city cruise with fish &chips lunch included(1h30m). There is no better way to enjoy the great British tradition of Fish & Chips than to sit back, relax, and take in the beautiful riverside of the majestic Minster city.

 Departing from the City Centre, you'll be handed your Fish & Chips freshly wrapped and delivered by the award-winning Mr. Chippy with the option of washing it down with a wide range of refreshments available at our on-board bar.

Day 14 Liverpool/Chester
Today, be ready to travel again to Liverpool.

Stop at the vibrant city of Leeds. Leeds is city with great shopping and cultural attractions. Visit the Royal Armouries Museum, home to a vast collection of arms and armor or Leeds Art Gallery for a mix of classic and contemporary art. 

Stroll through Roundhay Park, one of the largest city parks in Europe.

After this lovely visit, why not stopping in Manchester.

Manchester is a dynamic city famous for its industrial heritage, music, and football culture. Visit the Museum of Science and Industry, take a stroll in Heaton Park, or explore the history of British football at the National Football Museum. 

This city is known for its legendary music scene (The Smiths, Oasis), so check out venues like the Albert Hall for live music or visit Afflecks for indie and alternative shopping. Once arrived in Liverpool, make you way to your last night in your hotel.

Additional information about rent car

• Mileage: Unlimited
• Insurance/ Excess: CDW without excess: Collision damage waiver, theft protection, airport surcharges, tyres and windscreen and 3rd party insurance are included. Excluding from the protection are lost keys, usage of wrong fuel, interior protection, road side assistance and recovery.

• Cross Border Policy: The rental agreement is valid for United Kingdom or Northern Ireland. Vehicles rented in Northern Ireland may not be taken outside the agreed rental location including Republic of Ireland. In this case an additional insurance is required, on request and costs ca. GBP 4.00 per day. 
• TST will not take any liability or costs in case the car is driven in or to Republic or Ireland without notification. In this case the credit card will be charged. Vehicles cannot be taken from Northern Ireland to mainland UK and vice versa.
• Driving license: The main driver must be holding a valid driving license for at least 2 years.Child seat/ infant seat: need to be booked before arrival for ca. GBP 15.00 per seat/ per day. Alternatively, they are bookable and payable on arrival subject to availability.
• GPS/ Never lost: can be added at time of booking for ca. GBP 15.00 per day or alternatively at rental station for a higher fee. In that case the credit card of the main driver will be charged.
• Tank filling: Vehicles have a full tank upon collection and shall be returned with a full tank (otherwise extra charges for fuel may occur and main drivers credit card will be charged)
• Return: The hired car shall be returned at the agreed time and date! Otherwise, extra charges for late return may occur and main driver’s credit card will be charged. This includes returning the car to a different rental station than the pick-up rental station.
• One-way fees: on request only!
• Pick up/ drop off locations: may not always be inside a terminal building, walks and on occasions bus transfers (included) may have to take place. Full info will be provided with the travel documents
• Cancellation Policy: Cancellations can be made FOC up to 14 days prior to arrival.
• No-Shows: Not used/attended services that are provided with the package cannot be refunded. 100% no show fees apply.
